Floods in China Leave Two Dead, Ten Missing

(MENAFN) At least two people have lost their lives and ten others remain unaccounted for after intense flash floods swept through East China’s Shandong Province, according to media on Tuesday.

Triggered by torrential rain, the flooding struck Jinan’s Laiwu district, where precipitation peaked at 364 millimeters (14.33 inches). The deluge inundated two villages in Dawangzhuang Township, damaging or destroying 19 residential structures.

Search-and-rescue teams continue operations on the ground, as emergency crews work simultaneously to provide post-disaster aid and restore local infrastructure.

This disaster follows China’s activation of its highest-level emergency alert on Monday in anticipation of Typhoon Wipha—the nation’s sixth typhoon of the year.

Meteorologists warn that the rain is expected to persist for at least three more days.

Authorities have issued urgent directives to implement safety precautions against the ongoing storm impacts, including risks of flash flooding, landslides, and urban drainage overload.

Typhoon Wipha made landfall on Sunday, battering southern Hailing Island before advancing inland across southern China. The storm unleashed landslides, blocked roads, and forced temporary shutdowns of rail and air traffic in Taiwan and Hong Kong.
