China Says Viral Shanghai Road Collapse Video Was AI-Generated, False
A 49-year-old woman, identified only as Luo, was placed under administrative detention by a local branch of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau, according to a notice cited by the Global Times.
Luo was accused of “claiming a partial ground collapse in a metro construction site in Shanghai to attract followers, causing adverse social impact,” the notice said.
The video, which circulated widely on social media Thursday and Friday, falsely suggested a partial collapse had occurred at the construction site of the Jia-Min Line metro project in the city’s Jiading district, claiming it was the second such risk in under four months.
“After verification by the public security authorities, the information was found to be fake,” the notice confirmed.
Shanghai Metro clarified on its WeChat account that a localized leakage had occurred Wednesday on the Jia-Min Line, with no casualties reported. Later, Shanghai Shentong Metro Group said a collapse did take place at the same area as the previous leakage, but the site was sealed off and no injuries occurred. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
