South Korea's Exports Smash All-Time Record
Total outbound shipments reached $28.63 billion between June 1 and 10, eclipsing the previous record of $25.2 billion set just two months earlier in April, according to the Korea Customs Service. The daily average export value surged 46.1 percent to $4.09 billion over the same period.
Semiconductors emerged as the undisputed engine of growth, with chip exports skyrocketing 205.8 percent to $11.07 billion, driven by voracious demand for artificial intelligence (AI)-grade processors. Computers and peripherals delivered an even more dramatic jump — up 259.4 percent to $928 million — propelled by surging appetite for solid-state drives tied to rapidly expanding AI infrastructure investment worldwide.
The export boom extended well beyond technology. Shipments of oil products, automobiles, ships, auto parts, mobile devices, precision machinery, and home appliances all posted double-digit growth over the ten-day period.
On the import side, South Korea brought in $23.35 billion worth of goods — a 35.6 percent increase from the same period a year ago — generating a trade surplus of $5.28 billion. Imports of chips, crude oil, semiconductor equipment, machinery, natural gas, oil products, automobiles, and mobile devices all recorded double-digit gains during the period.
